Aquaculture models which allow to predict the environmental, socio-economic and capacity outcomes are increasingly gaining more attention nowadays in the Allocated Zones for Aquaculture (AZAs) field. The result of those systems is translated into Geographic Infomation Systems (GIS) and represent essential tools in the sustainable environment of seas and oceans.

Given the crucial roles played by these models, FAO organised a series of online training sessions on the usage of GIS in AZAs contexts from 23rd November to 2nd December.

The online courses provide key information of the usage and applicability of GIS tools and will help the attendees to increase their level of knowledge and comprehension on geographic systems, digitizing processes, generation of information and methodological frameworks development.

Anton Ellenbroek (FAO), involved in the Blue-Cloud demonstrators "Fish, a matter of scales" and "Aquaculture Monitor", was one on the speakers on the 23rd of November.
