FAIR-EASE

Mission

The main objective of FAIR-EASE is to customize and operate distributed and integrated services for the observation and modelling of the Earth system, environment and biodiversity by improving their different components implemented in close cooperation with user-communities, the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and research infrastructures in their design and sustainable availability.

Collaboration with Blue-Cloud

Establishing a strong cooperation to strengthen the European Open Science Cloud

In order to set up and use a data lake using external services within the FE Data Providers, Blue-Cloud and FAIR-EASE are working on a series of common approaches and best practices, applied to accessing data services and data processing.

What's more, FAIR-EASE aims to develop an Earth Analytical Lab (EAL) — the equivalent of Blue-Cloud's Virtual Research Environment (VRE) hosting several Virtual Labs; in order to do this, FAIR-EASE is closely collaborating with Blue-Cloud, and they aim to host all the resources for storage and processing on the Blue-Cloud VRE, with resources and core services provided by D4Science.

Communication and dissemination activities

Blue-Cloud and FAIR-EASE are closely collaborating on developing various training on FAIR practices, and how to use and exploit the data sourced within any of the Virtual Research Environments (VREs). FAIR-EASE is also involved in planning a webinar on the Blue-Cloud Training Academy, to share tips, tricks and best practices.

Additionally, Blue-Cloud and FAIR-EASE worked closely on the workshop "Navigating Data Lakes for Earth and Marine Science", with the goal of promoting the adoption of FAIR data practices in the fields of marine science and related disciplines. Both Blue-Cloud and FAIR-EASE aim to overcome the seemingly fragmented ecosystem of Open Science by building data platforms in the marine and Earth sciences that federate data infrastructures that follow FAIR principles. During the workshop, Blue-Cloud and FAIR-EASE had the opportunity to share the floor and present the main achievements of the initiatives.
